Think you are
Sparkling and sinless
Wait and see
Why does it matter
Whether you gain recognition or not?
Who are you trying to impress?
Do you not fear the fire?
Who are you acting for?
Yourself? Another? Or for Allah?
All this
False modesty
False politeness
False piety.
Ahh...gotcha
Piety, huh?
Reading religious books
Listening to lectures
Taking notes, even
Being all sanctimonious.
Being silent
Yet judging people
Giving wise advice
From behind a screen
But where
Is the implementation
In you own life?
The silent walk
An outward sign
Of inward pride
You're just smart
enough
To keep your real self hidden
People like you
Appreciate you
Admire you
If only people knew
They'd stay away from you
Even self-deprecation
isn't done
but to gain respect
and approval
come
Lets dance
the dance of politeness
the dance of respect
But you know
Its just a dance
and you know
you don't mean it
your just playing
no sincerity
just fakeness
falseness
selfishness
Why don't you do
something different
Go out there
and do something
and don't expect
reward
don't expect
approval
don't even expect
notice
But you wont
you're lazy
and a coward
who prefers this
meaningless
life
to the next life
idol worshipper
And yet you still
Cry for Husayn (A)
And beat your chest
but its all hollow
fake
do you really
mean it?
then where is
the sacrifice
in your life?

And so on, and so forth. I could carry on for ages.
This is why I don't mind abrasive people. They have no effect on me. For if I were to start taking a knife to myself, I wouldn't stop. After all, who knows me better than I do?
God help me.

Wow. Amazing. Mashallah. Deep stuff man.
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely wonderful.
ReplyDeleteFantastic hard hitting poem. I was wondering if we could republish this in the Voice of Unity (VOU) magazine and credit back to this blog with a link?
ReplyDeleteSalams
ReplyDeleteI don't mind it being published, but anonymously, without a credit to the blog, if that can be done.
Incidentally, how did you find my little corner of the web?
That's amazing. I'm going to save this and print it somewhere, as a reminder for myself
