Plans for the Holidays

finally...I can start tonight
given the gift of borrowed time
to journey from darkness into light
an incredible second chance to shine

the borrowed time is enough still...
as long as not wasted on cheap thrills

time to test myself beyond measure
successive tests accelerating growth
looking within for the hidden treasure
increasing momentum delivering hope
of progressive refinement for the soul
nothing matters but the primary aim
the human heart has to be made whole
else all it sings will forever be lame

impatient, feeling the need to take flight
to see the soul soar toward new heights,
gravitating towards the rays of hope
nimbly ascending the slippery slope

the borrowed time will have left me in debt
but there is something to make of this life yet

the future calls....

Farewell

To words I commit my memory of you
and hope that justice to you they do

an incompetent fool I was in past days
you it was that helped me mend my ways

conversation with you was in itself education.
patient words leading to gentle reformation.

on forbearance and bravery by example you led
never choosing the route of the coward instead

to make you happy was worth the while,
joy in a student making his teacher smile.

Now the apprentice must walk alone
the tests of life he can no longer postpone

The teacher will watch proudly from afar
as his young charge dares to reach for stars

Down

I feel horrible today.

Today was the first time I've slept again after waking up in a long time...no energy. I don't feel like eating much, though I will have to, to stop mum from worrying. She already suspects something, but thankfully she has no idea what.

I'm feeling my emotions more intensely. I'm deeply worried about hurting those that I care for, and I keep on remembering the times when I've hurt others, both in the distant past... and in the recent past. I've been close to tears a lot in the last few days, and I'm in tears as I write this. I'll never forgive myself if I hurt anyone again...I just hope God and those I have hurt will forgive me before its too late...

Respark

The fire within had gone,
the spark blown out by winds askew
To my shell I had withdrawn
Mourning the loss of tint and hue
my vision was dull, monochrome
no deep red, no vibrant blue
The heart just wishing to be alone
unwilling, afraid, hesitant to renew

time goes on.....

eventually one finds the reason behind the hurt
looking within lets you see the specks of dirt
It was only when it was taken apart
that I could polish the mirror of the heart
allowing the Glory of God to be reflected
and His promise to be beautifully perfected
"Most surely after difficulty comes ease"
and powerful in truth was this release

the epiphanic joy that release brings
means the heart is again ready to sing
the fire renewed, burning bright.
happy to share with others its light

21

I'm 21 today...

*sighs*

I'm not celebrating today. Thankfully, neither is my family. I don't feel the need to celebrate, and even if I did, there is nothing worth celebrating.

I feel like I've wasted the past year. I haven't grown much, and if I have, its not anything that is measurable. I keep on reflecting on the huge gap between what I could have done, and what I actually have done. It's not pretty. I feel like I'm wasting the life that is gifted to me. I don't honestly know why I'm still alive. I can only assume that I haven't done what I was meant to.

However, it's not all bad. I see the next challenges ahead. I know what I'm meant to be doing for the next few years. And I have some major plans for the easter holidays (watch this space). So whilst I look back with feelings of regret and shame, I look forward with hope, and a sense of nervous excitement...

Here's to my 22nd...

Reach out

Reach out and touch someone
make a difference in some way
easing our collective burdens
it doesn't have to be that big
give of the gifts you have been given.
A smile, a laugh, a compliment
listening carefully, to other souls,
instead of being self-absorbed
sharing a little of what you know
the risk is small, the gains huge
but you never know, until you
actually put yourself out there
and maybe even risk looking silly
it wont happen by itself
you have to will it so
and of time....what of time?
how much do you have left?
It doesn't matter, for even a little
is enough to make a small difference.

reach out...
and touch someone.

Some thoughts on sport.

(This is about football mainly...people who follow other sports may disagree)

I love sport. Or at least...I thought I did. I used to think, from watching it, I'd see glimpses of purity, and the humanity common to all, which would be shown by the rare moments of sportsmanship, where the players would occasionally rise above themselves, and acknowledge that, at the end of the day, it was indeed just a game.

I loved how team sports were reliant in equal measure on individual skill and collective will, and how, maybe, perhaps, at the highest level, with players exhibiting perfect technique, it becomes less of a sport, and more of an art. There's a special, intangible element present. See here for what I mean.

I loved how sport was a perfect example of the manifesting of human potential through endeavour at the highest level (on the physical plane), and how one could take inspiration from that and apply it to growth on the intellectual, emotional, and spiritual planes.

But I don't see it anymore. The sportsmanship is going, and money proliferates. Money is now necessary for the sport to flourish at the highest level. As a result, the heart is gone, and the cold, ruthless brain dictates how teams play...they don't play to win anymore...they just play to avoid loss. Parasitic elements like agents proliferate. Players are becoming prima donnas. Fans have no patience when their team loses.

And so it is that I'm beginning to drift away. Perhaps the beauty of sport, and the true corinthian spirit that I seek is not to be found at the highest level anymore, but in just playing for the sake of playing, with friends and family, where it matters not whether you win, draw or lose, but how you play the game.

Perhaps the fault lies with me, for reading too much into what is essentially a human creation, and so eventually, inherently flawed.

Poetry

If January was a good month for art, then February was even better for poetry. I don't know where it had come from, but I'm glad it did.

However, it's gone now...the words and ideas and metaphors that used to come to me no longer do so...I'm just left with half-baked ideas... I don't even feel like writing much anymore.

I don't know whether it's just the end of a really good period, after which a dry spell must come, or whether there's a more specific reason. Either way, I'm not going to force it. If it comes back, all the better, and if it doesn't...well...I'll be glad to have been blessed with what I had.
